The deep desire for understanding the conditions and needs of learners and children with special academic needs made me passionate about special education. To keep this desire alive, I opted to pursue an academic path whose direct focus is the education of children who have special needs. After my high school graduation, I pursued a special education degree at King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Here, I specialized in deaf people’s education and graduated in 2008. Later, I joined the University of Akron in Ohio to understand special education better. I will graduate from this institution with an M.A with a special education major. My desire is to conduct further research in this field by enrolling for a special education PhD with a bias in deaf people’s education.
In trying to get firsthand experience with special needs students, I have worked closely with individuals who have special needs. As such, I taught deaf children at the elementary level school in Saudi Arabia. I got insights on the difficulties that special needs learners have and the challenges that their teachers have.
I also worked at the graduate school as a part-time assistant within the department of special education in Taibah University. Here, I learnt about the needs of the special education learners at a higher level. This gave me a detailed theoretical understanding about this area while holding the tutor’s position.
I have always updated myself in relation to the current special education trends especially deaf people’s education by becoming a member of the Deaf Club’s board in Riyadh. Here, I note the trends of the deaf children education. If given a chance to pursue by Special Education PhD with a bias in Deaf education at the Kent State University, I will achieve my educational and career goals. This opportunity will enable me to join other scholars in this facility so that I can contribute what I know to the research center of this college.
