Sample Essay on Tudor Dynasty

Tudor Dynasty

Tudor dynasty is also called the House of Tudor. It was a prominent royal house in Europe of the Welsh origin. The House ruled in the Kingdom of England as well as its realms such as the Kingdom of Ireland and the Lordship from 1485 to 1603.

Henry Tudor was the first monarch and monarchy descended through Henry’s mother forming a legitimized branch of the English House of Lancaster. House of Tudor took over power after the Wars of the Roses that left House of Lancaster extirpated and the Tudors were also aligned to this house.

The success of the Tudor dynasty can be attributed to the ability of Henry Tudor to establish himself as the best candidate for the discontented supporters and the traditional supporters of Lancaster. He was able to endear himself to the House of York that was the rival house of Lancaster house which enabled him to capture throne during the battle to become Henry VII.

To reinforce his victory and get more support from the House of York, Henry married Elizabeth of York. This symbolically united the factions that were formerly rivals under his new dynasty. The Tudor dynasty extended its power further past the modern England.

This enabled it to achieve a full union of the England as well as the principality of the Wales. This happened in 1542 under the Laws of Wales Acts 1535 to 1542. He was also able to assert the authority of English over Kingdome of Ireland. In addition, the Tudor dynasty was able to maintain traditional or nominal claims to the Kingdom of France although it did not try to make a substance of the claims.

In just a century, Tudor dynasty has been able to rule the domains with five monarchs. These are the Lady Jane Grey who was Mary’s younger sister and daughter to Henry VIII. And she was declared as the queen for nine days although she is considered as a usurper instead of a monarch. The only male in the line of Henry VII was Henry VIII of England who lived to the age of the majority.

During the era of Tudor dynasty, issues that surround Royal succession such as divorce, marriage as well as women rights succession were major themes in politics.  The line of the Tudor dynasty failed after the death of Elizabeth I of England in 1603. She died with no issue.
