Term Paper Essay on E-LEARNING IN SAUDI ARABIA

E-LEARNING IN SAUDI ARABIA

Introduction

E-learning concept has several definitions, descriptions and terms. All of them depend on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and this is their unifying factor. A common definition of E-learning is that it refers to directives that are presented using digital sources that include mobile devices or computers whose intention is to support learning.

Among the common terminologies for describing e-learning include virtual learning, online learning, internet learning, and distance learning. Regardless of the used term, online learning has commonalities which include the existence of a distance between learners and instructors or tutors, use of technology by learners to access their learning materials, and the use of technology to interact with other learners and tutors.

The system of e-learning supports learning and teaching in higher education as a way of offering service to learners and improving students’ engagements. The belief of students is that they can use the internet naturally to obtain their learning materials (Raj, 2011, p.13).

Research Objective

The aim of this study is to evaluate the new environment for e-learning in Saudi Arabia. It does this by focusing on the feedback and perceptions of students towards the environment for e-learning.

Research Questions

This research will address the following questions:

  • What factors influence the perception of students towards e-learning systems?
  • How can e-learning environment t be enhanced so as to promote the adoption of collaborative learning?

Hypothesis

Six hypotheses will be established to determine whether the hypothesized link is true. These are:

H1: Student satisfaction and e-learning quality standards have a considerable connection.

H2: Computer anxieties among learners will have a negative influence on the supposed satisfaction of e-learners with e-learning.

H3: The anticipated satisfaction of e-learners will be influenced by technology positively.

H4: The attitude of learners towards computers has positive influence on their supposed satisfaction with e-learning.

H5: The supposed e-learning system’s worth for learners will influence e-learners anticipated satisfaction with the e-learning systems positively.

H6: The e-learners anticipated interactions with the other e-learners have a positive influence on their satisfaction with this learning.

Variables

Hypothesis Independent variable Questions
H2Lack of experience and confidence with computersDo you agree that frequent use of computers will improve your confidence in using computers?
H4Learners’ attitudes towards computersDo you agree to the computers use in learning in Saudi Arabia?
H5Anticipated use of computers with ease by e-learnersAre you of the view that using computers will enhance the e-learning system?
H6Perceived interactions between e-learnersAre you of the view you’re your awareness of the e-learning system will enhance your ease interaction with other learners?

In Saudi Arabia, e-learning is considered as a new learning model. Independent variables that include the lack of experience and confidence with computers among students, anticipated computers’ use with ease by learners, attitude that learners have towards computers and perceived interactions among e-learners. The perceived system for e-learning in Saudi Arabia is the dependent variable.

Literature Review

E-learning refers to the use of electronic technology to deliver, improve and support learning and teaching. The Saudi Arabia’s education system has five divisions. These are the university level, secondary level, intermediate level, elementary level and kindergarten level. The education system’s administration in each level is completely centralized.

Each education policy is managed and controlled by the government. In Saudi Arabia, e-learning is common in the universities. High dependence on dependability and soundness of infrastructure exemplifies it. The infrastructure is responsible for assisting and providing convenience in e-learning. E-learning is aimed at increasing knowledge for individuals in different places in the world.

In Saudi Arabia, e-learning has frameworks that address the system’s quality although more emphasis is put on the classroom environment. E-learning quality is influenced by interaction in Saudi Arabia since it provides an environment which compensates for the lack of a face-to-face interaction among faculty members and e-learners. Online courses are increasing and students who want to pursue graduate and undergraduate degrees as well due to the increasing population.

This has made e-learning a reputable contender in regards to the Saudi Arabia’s education system. Because e-learning is done via the internet, the environment for learning is more complex. The perceived satisfaction among students with the quality of e-learning will determine whether they will use the e-learning system persistently.
